I’ve been in such a colorful mood lately that I’ve been doing this yellow & red eyeshadow look for the past few days now. It’s now my current favorite look. I finally got my hands on some NYX eyeshadows this past week and they are the eyeshadow I used in this look.
Here’s how I achieved this look :
1) First, apply an eyeshadow base to the lid, passed the crease, and on the browbone. I used this time Ulta Eye Primer (review coming soon). Apply a shimmery light yellow/light gold eyeshadow to the lid and just the inner crease. I used NYX’s Blondie eyeshadow for the light yellow.
2) Apply a shimmery red eyeshadow on the outer crease and just on the outer corner of the lid. I used NYX’s Rust eyeshadow for the red eyeshadow.
3) Apply a shimmery light beige on the browbone for the highlighter color. Use an eyeshadow primer on the lower lashline and apply the yellow on the inner lashline/red on the outer lashline.
4) Apply black eyeliner on the top lashline. I used Wet n Wild Megaliner Liquid eyeliner in Black. Lastly, I apply a few coats of Artistry Essentials mascara in Black & Artistry Waterproof mascara in Black for a false eyelash look.

You want to look beautiful on your big day, but don’t know where to begin? Here are some helpful tips for doing your own make up for prom or for a special event.
- If you do decided to get your make up done by a make up artist, bring photo references of what you want the artist to achieve. Photos from magazines of your favorite celebrities with make up looks you like are very helpful.
- Make sure to keep up with your skincare routines during the weeks following up to your event! Who wants to have breakouts on the day of? The night before, apply a facial mask to make your face feel fresh before your big night.
- Make sure to apply a foundation primer before applying your foundation.
- Use a foundation that best matches your skintone. The last thing you want is uneven looking skin. When applying foundation, apply foundation to your neckline as well. Set your foundation with a loose powder. Remember: When it comes to foundation, less is more.
- Decide if you want to play up your eyes or lips. The rule of thumb is focus on the eyes/downplay lips or focus on the lips/downplay eyes
- Before doing any type of eye make up, make sure to apply an eyeshadow base to avoid creased eyeshadow before night’s end. When it comes to eyeshadows, you don’t have to be matchy matchy with the color of your dress. Use eyeshadows that compliments the dress by using contrast colors. Experiment with make up looks before your big night.
- Wear smudge proof/waterproof eyeliners and mascaras. Make up smudges are bound to happen on the dance floor if your not using waterproof formula eyeliners and mascaras.
- Want spicy up your eye make up look? Wear false eyelashes! Don’t know how to apply false eyelashes? Check out this tutorial + pictures on Specktra.net.
- Keep blushes natural looking and a color that best matches your skintone.
- Make sure the lip color you choose doesn’t wash out your face. Prime your lips with a lip balm before applying a lip color. Use a lip liner that best matches either your lipstick or lipgloss. Apply the lipliner first. This allows your lip color to last longer. When applying lipstick (if that’s what you decide to use), make sure to apply it with a lip brush instead of applying it directly from the tube. This also helps prolonging the color.
- Special Event bag make up essentials; blotting sheets or pressed blotting powder compact, a mirror, lipstick or lip gloss, and eyeliner.

I decided to try out NAO’s mascara and give my favorite Artistry mascara a break. I’m glad I did, this stuff is wonderful. NAO’s mascara seperates my lashes, thickens them, and no matter how much you apply..no clumps. One of my favorite tricks to thicken up eyelashes even more is by applying a loose powder on your lashes after the first coat of mascara and re-apply your NAO mascara. The mascara has the right consistency. It’s creamy and not too thick. NAO’s mascara is only $15.95 and that’s a steal considering how great the quality is. I use to wear NYC’s false eyelashes back in my early years in high school. (Like,I still am now) I was obessed with eyelashes. I re-introduced myself to NYC lashes a few days ago and I have no clue as to why I stopped wearing them. Although, they are self adhesive, I used Duo eyelash adhesive (best glue for any false eyelashes). They are so easy to put on and are perfect for first time false eyelash users who don’t want to spend too much on lashes quite yet. These lashes are less than $2 at my Target. I’d stock up considering it’s the halloween season and I’ve noticed that NYC lashes usually sell out more so during this time of year. They give Ardell a good run for their money.
