Clothing Finds : Forever 21

September 27, 2007

I like looking like a million bucks without actucally spending that much. Forever 21 has up to date clothing & accessories(not to mention cute shoes & lipgloss that I’m a fan of) to fit anyone’s budget. Prices ranging from $3-$40+. Last week, I was on a search for an outfit for my 21st birthday outting this Sunday for sushi with some friends so, of course I went to F21. My F21 was stocked with pretty much all the clothes I thought were cute that I saw online (that’s pretty rare for my F21 to have all the clothes I like actucally in store as opposed to just being on the online store). I wanted to do some damage but, since I do have self control..I kept my purchases to the bare esstenials;

Top(I bought it in purple) = $17.80

Necklace = $5.80

Earrings(Something similar to those) = $3.80

Now,I’m on the hunt for a tank top because the shirt is just way too low, black pencil skirtI already have quite a few, maybe a new pair of black pumps & a cute clutch bag.

All I need now is more false eyelashes, dye my hair, get my nails done (I’m getting a full set, I miss fake nails) and my birthday look will be complete! A more personal style entry (+ maybe pictures) in the next fews days♥

Precious’ Must Have Beauty Item ; False Eyelashes

September 26, 2007

I loveloveLOVE false eyelashes! They brighten up your eyes & spice up any make up look. Natural to dramatic, I love and use them all. My favorite brand of eyelashes are Ardell. They come in many styles & lengths.Not to mention they are very inexpensive (at my local Sally Beauty store, they are only $2.99-3.99). False eyelashes often get this misconception of being hard to put on. Not true. They take some practice and time to get the hang of applying them on. When you finally learn how to put them on, you’ll never want to stop wearing them. My favorite tutorial (with easy to follow steps + visuals) on how to apply lashes (for beginners & people who have tried but, haven’t got the hang of lashes yet) is by Snowkei on Specktra.net. Specktra is a very helpful website that offers a forum for make up addicts a like asking & answering questions relating to cosmetics/beauty/etc & also offering easy to follow make up tutorials & make up pictures by the members. And for good meaure, pictures of me wearing false eyelashes;

Be bold & make a statement with killer lashes

My Fall & Winter Make up Choices

September 23, 2007

I’m constantly updating/experimenting with my looks (you know how us make up artist/cosmetic savvy girls are ;]). During the cooler months, I find that I do a lot more smokey eyes (always my favorite), mattes & light lips(pictured on the left side). Here’s just a rundown of my make up choices for the fall/winter seasons.

Face
Before anything, I always moisturize! My skin gets extremely dry during the colder months and needs that extra hydration. I find that my complextion becomes lighter during this season so, I have to change up my foundation colors. I just mix up foundations to get the right color for my skintone. I take a darker shade and mix it with a lighter shade until I get the color that best matches my coloring. If you’re of a paler complexation, it’s obviously not to buy a deep brown foundation as your dark shade. Buy two foundations that are in a light & medium color. I like to have my foundations to have a matte finish as well. I’ve never been a fan of the dewy look on myself especially not in the fall/winter.
Lastly (face wise), I use a matte blush and/or bronzer. Skin lacks that oomph and tends to look dull during this time of year. By using a matte blush or bronzer, it gives the right amount of color on your cheeks but yet, keeping you looking natural because of the matte finish.

Eyes
I’m the type of girl that smokes all my eye looks out. I said goodbye to the boring plain black look a long time ago, I’m all about smokey COLORS. I’m all about the purples, greens, greys, blues etc. The simplest way to smoke out any look is to apply a matte black eyeshadow to the outer crease and blend up. This gives the right amount of smokiness without overdoing it & a matte eyeshadow cuts down on the shimmery-ness of the shimmery eyeshadow that you may be using for this look as well as other looks (overdoing it with shimmery eyeshadows is not always a good thing especially in pictures). Another way to get the smokey effect is by applying a darker shade of the eyeshadow that you used on your lid & apply it on the crease of your eye. I’m also a fan of matte netural colors (beige, tan, peach, brown) & an extended black bold eyeliner (also known as “cat eyes”). Don’t forget to use an eyeshadow base before doing you eye make up. Don’t have any eyeshadow base? Use a bit of concealer or foundation & just pat on your lids.

Lips
It’s important to downplay & keep those pouts simple when doing a dramatic eye. Try softer/lighter shades or trying a nude color. A nude color can be achieved by just using a little bit of concealer and clear gloss on your lips. If your all about neturals & black eyeliner,try a more bold color. Remember to always prime your lips before applying any type of lip product (especially cooler weather = drying lips). You can use lipbalm, lip salve or just regular vaseline.

Grading ELF (eyes lips face) Cosmetics

September 20, 2007

My local K-mart recently stocked up on ELF Cosmetics and I just had to see what all the hype is about. Besides only being $1 per product, how is the quality overall? So, I bought 5 items by ELF & decided to grade them;

Eye Widener Eye Pencil in Pearl White | Grade : F
Although,it has a convenient built in sharpener in the cap,the color payoff was poor. The color didn’t appear on my eyes very much after a few applications. I’ve had better success with Wet n Wild & NYC color pencils.

Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Warm Tan | Grade : C
It’s nicely pigmented with the perfect amount of shimmer. The lasting power of the bronzer on my cheeks was very weak. Within 2 hours,it disappeared from my face. I usually don’t have problems with bronzers disappearing on my face so,I didn’t even think about using a creme blush before hand. I did use the bronzer as an all over lid color on my eyes and it does make a pretty eye color. I would buy it again just to use as an eyeshadow.

Brightening Eye Color in Silver Lining & Nouveau Neturals | Grade : C-
Both come with 4 eyeshadows.The netural compact is pretty good color wise.Colors came out soft looking on my eyes. As for the Silver Lining compact,I had to use a creme eyeshadow as a base to make the colors really pop. When just using a regular no color eyeshadow base, the colors look really dull. I used a purple cream eyeshadow as a base to help intensify the colors. After even using the colored base, it did no justice. It looked like a pastel mess on my face. I noticed that the eyeshadows are a bit chalky & cracked easily. Also, the choice of colors is kind of boring.

Therapeutic Conditioning Balm in Strawberry Creme | Grade : A
All I have to say is..YUM! Smells heavenly & glides on my lips like butter. It’s one of those lip balms that you can’t stop applying to your lips because your addicted to it.

Overall,ELF cosmetics is a okay cosmetic brand for new make up users or people who want to build up their collection more on quantity because everything is a dollar. Quality wise? Not the best. There are better drugstore brands that offer good quality cosmetics. I don’t mind buying the lip balms & the bronzer as an eyeshadow but, as for everything else…they can keep it.

How to pull off a “dramatic” blush look

September 17, 2007

Sometimes, blush can be that cosmetic item that is easily overlooked. Blush adds color to your face and adds a certain warmth to a flat/dull complexation (plus, makes a great eyeshadow). A lot of people frown upon the thought of overdone/”dramatic” blush. Why!? There’s certain ways to pull off a dramatic blush look & not look like your stuck in the 80’s.

- What color blush looks good on me?.
Try rosy, peach shimmery, soft corals, & pinks because they look good on just about every complexation. When applying blush to the apple of cheeks & cheekbones, apply your blush on an angle. Blend up & blend any harsh lines away.

- Don’t cake it on.
When I say overdone/dramatic blush, this means to add a little bit more blush than you normally would on regular days.

- Minimal eye make up.
Try to keep your eye make up low key. Wear flesh tone eyeshadows to even out the color on your eye lids and mascara.

- Try a soft lip color.
Avoid bright lip colors to prevent clashing with your cheek color. Try light lip colors in peach, pink, brown, nude varities.

Dramatic blush makes a great night on the town look & paired with false eyelashes(try natural looking lashes), you’ll look like a knockout.
