Make Up Shorts ; Precious’ Make up Bag Essentials

August 31, 2007

I’m trying to kill some time before my next meeting so,I decided to compile a list of my must-have-can’t-live-without-it- make up items (even tho you’ve seen my make up bags + make up in my “in my bag” section).

- LIPGLOSS! C’mon now,a girl can never have too much lipglosses. I’m boring when it comes to lip colors. I usually try to stay with nude/light brown shades. Sometimes I love to spice things up with some pink glosses (depending on my looks).
- Mascara
- Eyeliners (pencil & liquid in a variety of colors..black,brown,purple,green)
- Eyeshadows + brushes (depending on what I decided to wear that day,it varies a lot)
- Blush + blush brush
- Bronzer = a lifesaver.I can not tell you enough how much I love bronzer.
- Lipbalm
Basically my make up bag on a HEAVY make up week(lately,that’s been a lot).

I killed enough time,lol..Have a great {long} weekend♥

Conquer The Dark Circles & Puffy Eyes ; Ways to Treat Them (Natural & Make Up)

August 30, 2007

We all one way or another have suffered from dark circles & puffy/swollen eyes. There are many causes for the dreaded dark circles/puffy eyes like;

- Not enough water intake(dehydration)
- Your diet(drinking alcohol or eating salty foods before bed can cause puffiness)
- Not getting enough sleep
- Allergies
- Aging/hormonal changes
- High blood persure/dieases
- It’s heredity & many other causes

Here are just some of the many ways to reduce/avoid dark circle & puffy eyes (naturally);
- Keep eye creams cold.Cold creams help reduce puffiness.
- Cut up thin strips of potatos underneath your eyes. The startch from potatos tightens your skin.
- Soak two cotton pads in ice water or ice cold milk. Place on eyes for at least 15mins. Not only does this help reduce puffiness,it can also brighten up the whites of your eyes.
- In the morning,wear a mask filled with gel or cold water for a few mins.
- Soak two cotton pads in a saline solution or make one by putting a teaspoon of salt in a pint of hot water & place on your eyes.
- Using warm teabags over your eyes.
- Soak two cotton pads in rosewater & then,placing them on your eyes.
- Drinking at least 10 glasses of water a day.
- Get enough rest.
- Reduce stress.
- Use Vitamin E creams around your eyes.
- Eat more fruit & veggies.
- Wear sunglasses when going out in the sun.

If you don’t have the time to treat your eyes naturally,try concealing them with make up;
- Use a color corrector product (which usually is in a green or light purple-ish tint that hides redness & bruising like colors from dark circles) or a yellow base concealer (covers up the blue-ish/purple colors) when it comes to dark circles. It’s all about preference on which one to use,I prefer the yellow base concealer.
- Don’t have concealer/corrector on hand (or don’t want to buy any)? If you use a liquid foundation,use the foundation from the inside of the cap (the foundation inside the cap is slightly thicker/dried up & makes a great concealer).
- You can apply a color corrector/concealer with either a concealer brush,a wedge sponge or your finger.
- After applying the color corrector/concealer where there is discoloration,apply your foundation.
- Set your make up with a loose powder.

For Darker Skin Beauties

August 27, 2007

Not only do I get a lot of questions about make up for Asian women,I also get quite a few questions about make up for African Amercian women(specifically for darker complexion). Here are just some suggestions/tips that will lead you to the right direction for make up that best suits your skintone.

Foundation
Instead of going to a drugstore for foundation,go to a department store make up counter. A lot of drugstore brands don’t offer many color choices for darker skinned women. Department store make up counters offer wide ranges of foundation colors & the make up artist/sales associate will be more than happy to help you find the perfect shade for you. Plus,you get to test out the product before hand instead of guessing when it comes to drugstore foundations.

Eye shadow
Color was made for you! Don’t be scared,experiment with different colors. I find that when doing make up for Ebony women,bright colors look amazing(especially greens & purples). If colorful looks aren’t your thing & want to wear colors that are more subtle,choose dark brown,copper,burgundy,beige,and plum tones.

Blush
If your wanting a dash of color on your cheeks,try red,burgundy,brown/bronze & pink tones. The darker your skintone is,the more blush you will have to apply on your cheeks in order for the color to show up. Also,if you want to contour your cheeks,jawline or nose,use a matte dark brown color (like an eyeshadow).

Lip
Try to avoid fire red,bright or orange-y lips. Instead,try colors in dark plum,red with blue undertones,dark mocha & berry.

Exotic Asian Eyes

August 23, 2007

I always get asked questions about how to do eye make up for Asian women. I found that there aren’t enough “how to” eye make up guides for Asian women on the web. This hits home seeing how my mom is Asian as well & she always ask me about eye make up. Here are just a few tips that I’ve learned and use that will help all my Asian beauties;

- Shades that really compliments Asian women are plum, orange, pastel, & caramel tones. You aren’t just subjected to these colors. Experiment with different colors & see what shades look best on you.

- I’ve noticed that some Asian women don’t have a crease. This is what I call a mono-lid. The best way to apply eyeshadow on your lid is to do it by making a “rainbow” effect. Apply a dark shade all over your lid blending up. Then, apply a medium shade(which will also reduce a puffy looking eye) right above the dark shade blending the edges together. Lastly,apply a light shade as a highlight color. Finish off the look with mascara (don’t forget to curl those lashes & eyeliner on the lower lashline or waterline is optional). The key to this look is to blend.

- Another good way of applying eye make up on a monolid is to do the side by side method. Apply a light/medium shade on the inner v (inner lid of your eye) & then, apply a dark shade on your outer v (outer lid of your eye). Finish off with a light highlight color on the browbone & mascara &/or eyeliner.

- Smokey eyes look amazing on exotic looking eyes. For the simplest smokey eye,apply a thick line of black eyeliner (preferably pencil since it smudges easily) on your top lashline. Take a smudge brush (or your finger) & smudge it upward on your lid. Then,apply a dark eyeshadow (it doesn’t have to just be black, try a dark blue or purple) all over the eyeliner.

- Also try doing a lighter version of the smokey eye but, instead of using dark eyeshadow, try a brown eyeshadow for a more daytime look. You can also substitute the black eyeliner for brown.

- And lastly, if your lashes are stubborn, don’t want to curl,& you don’t feel like fooling with mascara? Try false eyelashes! They are tricky at first but, practice makes perfect. Once you get the hang of them, falsies may become your new best friend.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!♥
